| Equinox literally means "equal night". On the vernal (spring) and autumnal (fall) equinoxes, day and night are the same length. Neither hemisphere gets more sunlight than the other, so both have similar seasons (fall in one hemisphere and spring in the other).
How high the Sun gets in your sky, and how long it is above the horizon during the day, depend not only on the season, but also on your latitude.
Vernal Equinox heralds the spring, and is a time of reflecting upon new energies coming into your life and the ridding of the old. The sun rises due east and this direction should be your main focus for your workings.
Traditional foods for the feast include of course, eggs as they symbolize fertility and any green leafy foods. Cured meats would have been eaten and any newly sprouted edible roots, leaves and buds. These days we have many options of storing foods during winter, but prior to modern living it was a great treat to have anything fresh at this time of year. Vegetarians and Vegans can of course eat anything that has seeds or nuts stored, to symbolize the energies of preserved foods and follow up with leafy greens and fresh fruits.
If you can witness the sunrise, I suggest you do so, for the energies are at their peak. If you cannot, then don't worry, just do it when you can.
